Annual Knoebels Picnic Central Pennsylvania Section

The first ride to join the picnic tables and benches was a steam-powered carousel. To help reduce that staffing storage, the park recently announced it will raise its starting hourly wages for workers 18 years old and up from $9.50 to $10.50 per hour. Adults working rides will get the same $1 bump in starting pay to $11. The starting wage for ages jumped from $9 to $10 per hour and from $9.50 to $10.50 per hour for employees in that age group who work rides.

With the rattling of chains, gears and pulleys, the journey begins. The “Phoenix” determines where each body goes and when it stops. For a few minutes, riders are completely at its mercy, reveling in the moment. The thrill rides cut unique configurations along c2c crochet rectangle metal tracks, plunging through cascading water, and soaring through mid-air, high above, all to the tune of bells and whistles that punctuate the proceedings. Online or once you enter the park, you can purchase booklets of tickets or a “Ride All Day” pass .

Make new memories the old fashioned way with classic rollercoasters, kid-friendly rides, swimming, camping, golf and attractions for the whole family! Located in Central Pennsylvania’s Susquehanna River Valley. They are on a fixed income, but they can come and park for free.

This was our first big outing since receiving our COVID-19 vaccinations. The three attractions that we went to were adapted to encourage social distancing, but this was still the first time being around so many people in an inside venue. Everyone was required to wear masks in all areas of the Hershey’s Chocolate World building. This blog post consists of our @sos_jr tweets and retweets with photos and videos from our trip. Please share any photos and videos that you find interesting by retweeting them.

“Kozmo,” a cartoon chipmunk, is Knoebels official mascot, and will serve as the tour guide throughout the park. His image is emblazoned on signs that not only direct visitors to various attractions, but also illustrate the proper height children must be in order to board some of the rides. Absolutely hit my high points, like the haunted house, the mini-golf, and the train ride. My church supports ministry in the campgrounds which is awesome. The park website has a lot of great information about each ride at Knoebels, including how much each one costs, height requirements, and a “Kozmo’s Ratings” scale for factors like speed an intensity. They’re there around the park perimeter, but they’re often hidden by foliage.

Knoebels is hiking its starting pay rate by up to $1 as it seeks to hire several hundred more workers at its understaffed park this summer. Although S was still too small for most of the rides, she was able to tag along on one of the mildest and most nostalgic rides at the park, the Pioneer Train. While the 1.5-mile journey under the Twister and through the woods won’t set any hearts racing, it was breezy and cool and just the right speed for little ones. There are no parking attendants charging you to park in the huge, grassy lots, and you can walk right through the gate without having to fork over any hard-earned cash for the privilege. The park is completely pay-as-you-go, making it great for folks on a budget or families with members not willing or able to do much riding themselves.

It is a par 71 eighteen-hole golf course which provides two very different nine-hole layouts. The front nine holes are located on the side of the mountain which provides the golfer with numerous elevation changes from tee to green. The back nine landscape is less dramatic but still offers numerous challenges such as water and various risk-reward approach shots. The prices for the course vary from $23 to $40, with reduced rates for 9-hole games.

While making this journey, periodically it’s possible to hear and feel the shudder of this massive structure as the coaster carries its human cargo to new heights, then suddenly drops them again. All of this is followed by a chorus of ever present screams — a mix of surprise, excitement, and fear. After a short wait on the platform, the “Phoenix” comes in for a landing. As it rolls to a stop, passengers look slightly disheveled, but thoroughly stimulated. After the safety bar is lowered for the next group of riders, a ride handler walks to each car, examining the bars to make certain that they are in their locked position. With an arm wave to the operator that all is secured, a lever is thrown, and the “Phoenix” begins its flight.
