Police continue to investigate the Wednesday shooting death of Memphis rapper Young Dolph. Local reporter Hannah Wallsmith tweeted that Memphis PD confirmed no shooting took place at the restaurant. Police in Memphis temporarily shut down Prive, a restaurant owned by rapper Yo Gotti, in the wake of Wednesday’s fatal shooting of Young Dolph, a Gotti rival. Wednesday’s fatal shooting of Young Dolph led to the temporary closure of an upscale Memphis spot owned by a longtime rival. Memphis police are currently surrounding Yo Gotti’s restaurant in an effort to prevent possible retaliation measures following the shooting death of Young Dolph.
For the first anniversary of his death, Dolph’s non-profit organization, the IdaMae Foundation, is celebrating Young Dolph Day of Service. The day will be full of charitable events that will provide free food to families, winter kits and free haircuts for children. When asked about the car, Memphis police said no additional updates in the case were available. Aside from Young Dolph, no other person was injured in Wednesday’s shooting, according to Sgt. Louis Brownlee, Memphis Police public information officer. Yo Gotti’s restaurant, Prive, on Winchester Road was not shot at either, according to Memphis Police Department. In 2019, the charges were dropped against Blac Youngsta, clearing him of any wrongdoing.
Recently, another suspect was arrested and charged with allegedly planning Dolph’s murder months in advance. Hernandez Govan allegedly sought out Johnson and Smith in an effort to recruit them for the job. Social media posts seem to show a white Mercedes similar to the one seen in surveillance photos being towed Saturday afternoon. Comments from various posts identified the area of Memphis seen in the photos as Orange Mound. The two suspects fled the shooting scene in a white Mercedes with tinted windows. On Thursday Memphis Police Department released photos of two alleged shooters and the vehicle they left in.
According to XXL, the feud between the two Memphis rappers began in 2014 when Dolph declined to sign to Gotti’s record label. Just days earlier, Dolph told his fans to visit the cookie store where he was gunned down. Police dismissed reports that the fine dining restaurant had been “shot at” following Dolph’s death. As of press time, the Memphis Police Department has not identified Dolph’s suspected killer.
A few months after the shooting, police formally arrested Johnson and his cohort Cornelius Smith. Another suspect Shundale Barnett was also arrested Indiana but was released due to a miscommunication amongst authorities. He hasn’t been seen since and currently has a warrant out for his arrest. There were no retaliatory shootings Wednesday connected to Young Dolph’s prive restaurant memphis shooting death despite social media rumors, according to Brownlee. While in Charlotte in February 2017, Dolph was inside his $300,000 SUV when the vehicle was shot at more than 100 times. According to TMZ, several Memphis Police Department squad cars filled the parking lot of Prive, which is located about 10 miles from where Dolph was shot and killed on Wednesday (Nov. 17).

Blac Youngsta was later arrested in connection to the latter shooting, along with two others, after warrants were issued for their arrests. The seven charges Youngsta faced—six counts of discharging a firearm into occupied property and one count of felony conspiracy—were ultimately dropped. One woman died of her wounds, and the other woman remains hospitalized, Howell said.
