Witch’s Rock Surf Camp in Playa Tamarindo pioneered craft beer in Guanacaste when they started their own microbrewery in 2011, the Volcano Brewing Company. In Tilaran on Lake Arenal is the first microbrewery in Costa Rica, Lake Arenal Brewery. There you can try their 8 house beers including Pradise Pale and the IPA as favorites. It has one of the best views of the lake to enjoy a burger and beer. Treintaycinco is another big brewery in Costa Rica with a large variety of stouts, IPA’s and barley wine.
For smaller purchases, you will often pay in USD and get CRC back. It’s good to have both US dollars (in denominations no larger than $20) as well as colones. Accommodation is always going to be one of your biggest expenses. For 10,000 CRC per night you can get a decent place to stay.
