How to Charge the iPhone 7 and Listen to Music at the Same Time

Every year about this time, the tech giant unveils its latest iPhone. And fans can’t wait to get their hands on the shiny new toys. So for those of us who like to listen to music while charging our phones, we’re not totally screwed. At least as long as we’re willing to pony up some additional money. One of the big issues that owners encounter when using an iPhone 7 is how to charge it while listening to music or chatting. The truth of the matter is the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus don’t have 3.5 mm headphone jacks, and since they use the Lightning connector to output audio, it’s hard to charge your phone while your headphones are plugged in. For those with a set of Lightning headphones, this single features two Lightning ports, one for charging, and one for accessories, including chargers. While Apple suggests using aniPhone charging dock to listen to music and charge your iPhone at the same time, it isn’t a great option – especially if you want to use your phone while charging. It’s not the end of the world though, as we at Macworld UK have done our research and present you with three different ways to get around Apple’s Lightning port issue. So with that in mind, how will you possibly use your existing headphones and speakers with your new iPhone while you’re trying to charge it? Well we’ve got four solutions for you that will get your mind off of the missing headphone jack.

Plus, all the other solutions cost money and if that is an issue, the speakers are the only way you can charge your iPhone 7 while listening to music without paying for the privilege. What amuses me is that Apple still sells the iPhone 6S and SE which have a headphone jack, and that all the iPads and MacBooks still have one. Moreover, a cable connection won’t lose signal, lose a charge, and will always sound better (if that’s something you care about). I normally use Bluetooth headphones – you can also make and receive phone calls this way. Heck, I’ve even contemplated switching to Samsung because I’m so tired of all these dongles and adapters that Apple wants people to buy. For playing and charging when I’m going to sit down and put those headphones on.

And it could charge not only iPhone 7 & 7 Plus, but also previous iPhones. If all you want to do is listen to tunes and charge your iPhone at the same time, then maybe then it’s time to take the plunge and nab yourself a pair of Bluetooth headphones, which are plentiful andcan be had for around $20. It will not, however, let you actually charge the device while listening to music.
