How to interpret your SAT scores

If a student has a percentile of 67 that means that student has scored higher than 67% of the students that have taken the test. These scores are used by colleges to rank you concerning the other students. If you have a 90 percentile score, which translates that you have performed better than 90% of the students, that will be an immense advantage for you when applying to colleges. If your percentile score is above 75, you are above three-quarters of test-takers.

You can also search for additional schools using your SAT score and GPA, in addition to other criteria, to find your perfect match. The median is the 50thpercentile, meaning that half of all test takers got lower scores and half got higher scores. If you get a composite SAT score of 1083 or more, you are above average. The 75thpercentile composite SAT test score is 1215, the 90thpercentile is 1340, and the 95thpercentile is 1410. Some colleges only look at the highest score that a student has got from the SAT.
