Agriculture work consists of long hours and you can rely on quality equipment that will maximize your productivity. As a contractor, you need a work truck that can rise to the tough challenges of a construction site. CM Stake Bodies deliver heavy-duty strength, convenience and versatility, with removable sides to securely haul cargo and equipment.
If you have a full hardtop cover, go ahead and do it in the winter, too with a little space heater and some hot cocoa! Unlike an air mattress, this will never go flat in the middle of the night or not fit around your wheel wells. Then, I cut that piece in half to create two separate doors, a top half to cover 4 compartments and a lower half to cover the other 4 compartments. I attached the doors to the box so that they would open toward the tailgate.
We wanted to downsize a bit, maintain a certain level of cargo capacity, and still have our truck look like a pickup. Follow along to see what we did to build something a little different. Next, I measured and cut the plywood to fit the top of the box. Use the bed of your truck to post up for a few hours without the need for posts or trees. You could even place some faux grass beneath the hammock.
Next, weld in a set of well-reinforced cross members at the front and rear of your frame and two in the middle. Box the ends on with another length of rectangular stock. At this point, you can either install flooring made of traditional 2 by 6 pressure treated planking, diamond plate aluminum or plate 1/8 to 1/4 inch steel for really heavy applications.
This strong and long-lasting deck is designed for heavy-duty work, withstanding the rigorous work conditions that our bodies are placed under. Compare to other bodies on the market, which use 11-gauge and 13-gauge elroy sherpa accent chair floors. Because we don’t use roll-formed runners, our structural 4″ channel frame rails are stronger and more durable than any on the market. They also prevent any rusting from the interior of the tube.
More popular is the back-seat style as seen on the Subaru Brat, as well as a center bench that allows people to face outward for things like caroling. You can easily go the extra step and make it a bed with storage space. With little more than a $30 spool of webbing or elastic, you can weave yourself a net-hammock in the space above a truck bed. Many just repurpose normal cargo nets and string them up tightly for the same effect.
After that, measure and cut wood pieces for the new floor. Ensure to measure the wheel reel and sort it out on the wood pieces. Here is a simple way to quickly install a flatbed to your truck. The most challenging part of this project is how to get the original bed off the truck. If you are a handyman or woman who wants to build a DIY wood truck bed and you are looking for ideas or inspiration, this article is for you. If you are a complete beginner with no knowledge of woodworking, but you own a truck, I would advise that you seek professional help.
We drop cut a 9”x9” hatch into Sections #1 & #2 to access the storage spaces in front of the wheel wells. Sections #1, 2 and 3 were cut from one ¾” thick 4×8 sheet of plywood. Once the three drawer walls were joined to the top of the drawer base and to one another, we were able to place Drawer #1 in between the drawer slides. We used a speed square to ensure all the supports stayed as close as possible to 90 degree angles from the base and the 48” EXACT square to make sure the supports were straight from front to back.
