A picture of the two released on November 22, 2021 went viral on social media. OrganizationThe Media Accountability ProjectKnown forKenosha unrest shootingKyle Howard Rittenhouse is an American known for shooting three men, two fatally, during the civil unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in August 2020 when he was 17 years old. At his trial in November 2021, a jury found Rittenhouse not guilty of murder and other charges after he testified that he acted in self-defense. Rittenhouse, who was cleared of two counts of murder following the highly divisive trial in November 2021, shared the clip on his Twitter account on Thursday, where it has since been reshared more than 4,300 times. Kyle Rittenhouse has shared a meme which uses the moment he started crying during his murder trial to poke fun at rising gas prices. The Kyle Rittenhouse trial has entered the popular consciousness as people create memes about the different people featured in the trial, namely prosecutor Thomas Binger, Judge Bruce Schroeder, the witness they’re calling “Grambo,” Rittenhouse crying, and more.

The meme’s remaining claims about Rittenhouse — that no cop asked him to comply with the law before or during the chaos on Aug. 25, and officers praised his decision to open fire on the protesters — are impossible to rate “true” or “false” based on evidence available to us. That includes criminal complaints, cell phone videos, witnesses’ testimonies, and news stories detailing the shooting and law enforcement’s reactions to it. Other claims in the meme, however — such as the point about Toledo’s raising his hands and complying with officers’ orders before his death — were misleadingly asserted without important context. On June 23, 2022, Rittenhouse announced a video game called Kyle Rittenhouse’s Turkey Shoot, developed by Mint Studios, for the purpose of funding his media defamation suits. The video game, which features a cartoon Rittenhouse holding a bright orange gun with the aim of shooting turkeys that represent the media, has no stated release date. In a social media advertisement for the game, Rittenhouse described the media as “nothing but a bunch of turkeys with nothing better to do than to push their lying agenda and destroy innocent people’s lives.”

He also uploaded a picture referencing mail-in verdicts in an apparent nod to his father’s previous mail-in voting controversy that mired the 2020 presidential elections. Rittenhouse’s acquittal was cheered on by many on the right, but Rittenhouse confused conservatives when he told Fox News host Tucker Carlson that he supports Black Lives Matter. Comments on the post are “limited”, so naturally, no genuine opposing opinions can be seen in Trump’s echo chamber of a comment section.

Rittenhouse was armed with an AR-15 style rifle and had joined a group of armed citizens in Kenosha who had said they were there to protect local businesses. After a man chased him into a parking lot and grabbed the barrel of his central state university admissions rifle, Rittenhouse fatally shot him. He fatally shot a second man after he struck Rittenhouse with a skateboard and tried to grab his rifle. Rittenhouse wounded a third when he was approached and had a handgun pointed at him.

Last Friday, Taylor Swift released the long-anticipated “Red (Tayor’s Version)” — a version of her 2012 album that she re-recorded as part of a project to create new masters of her own music, since her former manager Scooter Braun owns the originals. As we described last week, the song everyone was most excited for was a 10-minute version of “All Too Well” — not only as an expanded iteration of the acclaimed song, but as a vehicle for more information about the ex-boyfriend who features in the song, who is widely believed to be Jake Gyllenhaal. It’s not just the persecution of Rittenhouse that has served as material for the best memes of the week. The harassment of taxpayers and parents of students has also been the subject of some of the best memes we’ve been able to enjoy. This isn’t the first time Donald Trump Jr has posted a weird picture to Instagram to comment on the Rittenhouse case. As medics attempted to treat Huber, Rosenbaum, and Grosskreutz, Rittenhousedrove back to his hometown, about 20 miles from Kenosha.

It was not announced if Nordic Empire Games had sought permission to use Rittenhouse’s image. Rittenhouse’s image has been used for a number of products and sales, including clothing, a gun sale, and a video game. Fans of Rittenhouse have continued to sell clothing with his image following the trial. In 2020, YouTube was criticized for a lack of adequate content moderation – arbitrarily allowing videos depicting Rittenhouse which glorified violence and monitized the killings through links to merchandise – until it was pointed out by a BBC journalist. On the witness stand, he testified that he was pointing his gun at Rittenhouse and advancing toward him from three to five feet away.

The prosecutor in the Rittenhouse case, Thomas Binger, an assistant district attorney in Kenosha County, has been the subject of various memes. Some make fun of his lapel pins, some make fun of his trial presentation. In other words, we have no way of measuring the extent to which law enforcement officers commended Rittenhouse’s actions, or condemned them. As of this writing, Rittenhouse faces multiple felony counts, including reckless homicide and reckless endangerment, for allegedly causing the deaths and injuries. Nov. 1, 2021, trial start date with a May 17 status hearing, according to the AP. Rittenhouse, who is white, was indeed 17 years old when he traveled from his home in Antioch, Illinois, to Kenosha, where a demonstration against the police shooting of Jacob Blake was taking place on Aug. 25, 2020.

In March 2022, Swedish company Nordic Empire Games launched a video game featuring Rittenhouse called Acquitted. Described as a far-right extremist group owned by William Hahne, the organization created the game that features Rittenhouse shooting his way through crowds of zombies with the choice of 18 different weapons. It was launched through the Steam hosting platform and available for $5.
