The long horizontal jib is the part of the crane that carries the load. The counter-jib carries a counterweight, usually of concrete blocks, while the jib suspends the load to and from the center of the crane. The crane operator either sits in a cab at the top of the tower or controls the crane by radio remote control from if a person looking at a poster sees green the ground. In the first case the operator’s cab is most usually located at the top of the tower attached to the turntable, but can be mounted on the jib, or partway down the tower. The lifting hook is operated by the crane operator using electric motors to manipulate wire rope cables through a system of sheaves.
One method is evolutionary robotics, in which a number of differing robots are submitted to tests. Those which perform best are used as a model to create a subsequent “generation” of robots. Another method is developmental robotics, which tracks changes and development within a single robot in the areas of problem-solving and other functions. Another new type of robot is just recently introduced which acts both as a smartphone and robot and is named RoboHon.
However, there are special designs where the load is moved vertically up or at a small angle to vertical. Monorail tramways is another type of cable conveyor in which the load carriers run on suspended rails, and moved by a moving wire rope. This is essentially a trolley chain conveyor where the traction chain is replaced by a wire rope. Corrugated apron design conveyor is the most common type of apron, made of formed steel, with front and rear edges beaded so that one overlaps the other to form a continuous bed or trough. The overlaps are so made that during turning of the chain over sprockets, the apron ends move relative to each other without creating a gap for leakage of materials or a jamming of adjoining aprons or pans.
It revealed its newest robot, Stretch, a mobile manipulator designed to move boxes out of trucks and around warehouses. When it goes on sale in 2022, for a yet to be named price, Stretch will initially focus on truck unloading and later add palletizing to its repertoire. Boston Dynamics is seeking customers to pilot Stretch with truck unloading tasks. 18 a-b schematically show a vehicle 810 that is particularly well-suited for use as transport vehicle 81 on a conveyor floor 75, as shown in FIG. The vehicle 810 comprises an upper part 801, suitable for supporting a container, and one or more undercarriages 802 .
Depending on their design, gantry robots can handle very heavy loads and move them quickly and precisely. They can also be made very large, if needed, covering the entire floor space of a facility. Smaller gantry robots can be useful for pick-and-place and other operations involving high accuracy and good rigidity.
Some harbour cranes were specialised at mounting masts to newly built sailing ships, such as in Gdańsk, Cologne and Bremen. Beside these stationary cranes, floating cranes, which could be flexibly deployed in the whole port basin came into use by the 14th century. Nanorobotics is the emerging technology field of creating machines or robots whose components are at or close to the microscopic scale of a nanometer (10−9 meters). Also known as “nanobots” or “nanites”, they would be constructed from molecular machines.
